11/16/2018

The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement donated $5,000 to Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom and $2,500 to the West Virginia Farm Bureau Mobile Ag Education Science Lab in 2018.

Westminster, MD – The Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement donated $5,000 to Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) and $2,500 to the West Virginia Farm Bureau Mobile Ag Education Science Lab this year to support agriculture education in the Mid-Atlantic.

“These two organizations play such a crucial role in educating our youth about farms, food and the environment,” says Dale Hershey, Chairman of the Farm Credit Foundation for Agricultural Advancement. “The Foundation is proud to provide assistance to Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom and the West Virginia Farm Bureau Mobile Ag Education Science Lab.”

Virginia Agriculture in the Classroom is a statewide educational program providing resources, training and support to schools, educators and volunteers so that they can meaningfully connect children to agriculture. Since the program began in 1987, AITC has served almost 17,000 teachers through workshops who have impacted over 469,000 students.

The West Virginia Farm Bureau Mobile Ag Education Science Lab serves students in Pre-K through fifth grade to teach them fun and exciting lessons about agriculture at their schools. The lab comes equipped with a certified teacher and lesson plans with 12 workstations for hands-on experience.

“Most Americans are three generations removed from a farm today, making these lessons even more valuable,” says Hershey. “The Foundation hopes our donations will allow these organizations to continue teaching students about agriculture.”

Staying true to its mission, the Foundation has donated more than $42,000 in 2018 to agriculture education programs in MidAtlantic Farm Credit’s footprint. In addition to these donations, the Foundation also gives away ten $10,000 scholarships to students studying agriculture each year.

The non-profit Foundation was established in 2015 and is funded by participating association MidAtlantic Farm Credit. For more information about the Foundation and its scholarship programs, please visit fcfoundationforag.org.
